What is supported housing?

A home of your own, with the support you need to live independently.

Supported housing is accommodation where residents hold their own tenancy with the housing provider and receive support, supervision or care — under a separate arrangement — to help them live as independently as possible in the community.

It is distinct from both care homes (where accommodation and care are bundled) and general needs housing (where no support is provided). Around 60,000 people in England currently live in mental health supported accommodation. GOV.UK National Statement of Expectations

Why quality matters

The home itself is part of the support.

For someone living with a mental health condition, the place they live in is not a backdrop to recovery — it is recovery. A clean, safe, well-maintained home reduces stress. A responsive landlord restores trust. Tidy gardens and clean windows restore dignity.

"Housing should be recognised as a health intervention by mental health services. Access to stable housing has been shown to reduce the costs of hospital stays for people who would otherwise require inpatient care."
— NHS Confederation

The evidence is hard to ignore: a recent Royal College of Psychiatrists and Look Ahead report found that 121,695 hospital bed days were lost in England in 2024/25 alone because supported housing wasn't available — costing mental health services £102 million.

That's why Diverse Supported Accommodation CIC invests where most providers don't — in our own in-house maintenance team, in 24/7 emergency response, and in technology that proves every issue is tracked and resolved. We focus on the home itself, and partner only with vetted support companies to deliver care within our properties.

What sets us apart

Four investments most providers don't make.

Most supported accommodation in the UK is sub-let, sub-contracted, and slow to respond. We've built our service the other way around.

01

In-house maintenance team

Our own staff carry out repairs. No subcontractors, no waiting for a third-party schedule. Accountable, consistent, and trained to our standards.

02

24/7 emergency response

When something goes wrong out of hours, we respond. Boiler failure, water leak, security issue — fixed when it happens, not the next working day.

03

Fixflo repair tracking

Every repair is logged, tracked, and resolved through Fixflo, the platform used by professional landlords. Residents report directly. Commissioners can audit.

04

Grounds & cleaning included

Gardening and window cleaning are part of the standard offer, not an extra. Because a home that's cared for on the outside feels cared for on the inside.

Our model

We focus on the home. Vetted support providers focus on the person.

Diverse Supported Accommodation CIC is a housing provider. The day-to-day support delivered within our homes comes from carefully selected, vetted support companies who operate inside our facilities.

This separation of accommodation from support is the model recognised by the Local Government Association in its guidance to commissioners — and is the structure most commonly used in modern supported housing across the UK.

Every support provider working in our properties is checked against our standards before they're approved — and held to those standards while they're with us. That way each part of the offer is delivered by people who do it best: we provide exceptional housing, and our partners provide exceptional support.

How we vet support providers

  • Regulatory status verified (CQC where applicable)
  • Safeguarding policies reviewed
  • Staff DBS and training checked
  • Insurance and references confirmed
  • Ongoing performance monitoring within our homes
